JOINT STATEMENT FROM PAGV CO-CHAIRS TWO YEARS AFTER THE MASS SHOOTING AT MARJORY STONEMAN DOUGLAS HIGH SCHOOL

“Two years ago, terror filled the hallways of Marjory Stoneman Douglas during the deadliest high-school shooting in U.S. history. Today we hold the Parkland community in our thoughts. But that is not nearly enough. It’s action that counts.

“With gun violence devastating families and communities, and the vast majority of Americans supporting tougher gun safety laws, the abdication of responsibility by the leader of the United States Senate is inexcusable.

“PAGV stood hand-in-hand with students from March For Our Lives in Washington, D.C. in 2018, and again at a national conference in Las Vegas last October, entitled ‘The New Norm: Mass Shootings in America.’ We support the advocacy and vision demonstrated by this generation of activists, and hope our elected leaders in the U.S. Capitol show the same bravery in bringing comprehensive, proven gun-violence prevention measures to a vote.

“The Senate can meaningfully honor the 17 victims from Parkland, and the 100 people shot and killed every single day, by enacting the common-sense gun legislation pending on Capitol Hill.”

PAGV is independent coalition of approximately 50 prosecutors from diverse jurisdictions throughout the United States, working toward solutions to end gun violence. The group is co-chaired by Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., and brings together prosecutors to discuss policies, legislation, and strategies to help prevent and confront gun violence in their jurisdictions.
