Joint Statement From PAGV Co-Chairs Bronx DA Darcel D. Clark and Santa Barbara County DA Joyce Dudley:
Today marks nine years since 20 children and six adults were murdered in the Sandy Hook Elementary School by a young man with an assault rifle. It was one of the darkest days in our nation’s history, but even that horrific event spurred little comprehensive action to stem gun violence. So many more innocent children have been killed or traumatized since then.
The six- and seven-year-olds who were killed in their classrooms that day would be in high school now. We must honor their brief lives by taking meaningful steps toward ending this scourge.
We send our condolences to the parents and loved ones of the heroic educators and 20 children whose lives were taken that day. We admire them for their strength and for the remarkable work they have done since, advocating and standing up against gun violence.
